Culture Safari in Karamoja the once Conflict stricken area now peacefully united by Tourism
The fact that pastrorism and conflict are two things that could never be separated, Karamoja was once an area embattled in conflict over natural resources like pasture, livestock and water for survival of their animals. It was such a tough time that traveling to Karamoja was never adviced for safety purposes. However gone are the days when the region was known for conflict. The people of Karamoja are now building themselves up through cultural tourism through offering open doors to visitors to come experience the uniqueness of their lives. Every visitor who visits contributes tremendously to the well-being of the communities and helping them to achieve a better life.
Day 1: Transfer to Karamoja from Kampala
Early in the morning, set off for a 9 – 10 hours journey to Karamoja the land surviving & building it’s self-up from conflict through magnifying on their culture and tradition. Overnight at Mount Moroto Hotel ( Half board – break fast & dinner)
Day 2: Getting Personal with the Karamajong. (All meals – Breakfast, Lunch & dinner
Nature Walk at Mount Moroto
An ancient volcano raises out of the semi-arid planes of Karamoja forming the highest mountain in the region with numerous peaks offering days of adventure.
Wake up to an amazing nature walk in the land of Karamoja where people people never use to have such luxury of experiencing the beauty of their own region because of wars. The mountains of Karamoja are an exciting alternative to the more strenuous climbs in East Africa with many of the same attractions, a milder climate, lower elevation and requires no special equipment or technical experience. The expeditions are a mix of rich encounters with the Uganda’s highland people, breathtaking views and unique sights along the trails and unique campsites where you can enjoy the sunset, the stars and sunrise over the planes of Karamoja. Moroto, home of the indigenous Tepeth tribe of Karamoja’s highlands that still life like thousands of years ago.
Village Experience with the Karamajong
This is not a sightseeing tour, but a participatory experience with the option to stay a night in a traditional hut in the village. A Manyatta is a traditional homestead where the Karimojong still life like their ancestors and conduct cultural traditions that have been passed on for many generations.
We introduce you into the culture by taking you to the beating heart of the community and invite you to participate in daily life activities. From preparing local foods to celebrations, this will be an unforgettable journey.
Night with Nomad Herders
The proud Karimojong people in Uganda’s northeastern corner live for their cattle and women. Many decades of conflict made Karamoja unthinkable as a travel destination. Today, the region is open to receiving all kinds of visiting visiting to experience their life. Stay with the Nomads in their Kraals to learn about their attachments to their cattle.
Day 3 Mountain Bike Tour and transfer back to Kampala ( breakfast & lunch)
Take the Karamoja Bicycle Tour and discover the untouched northeast of Uganda. Drive over old colonial roads, enjoy the views of undulating planes, interact with the local community and immerse in East Africa’s last living cultures.
Spend the day getting to know your bicycle and Karamojong hosts. You can then immerse yourself in traditional Karamojong life and culture and explore the surrounding plains.
Later transfer back to Kampala after experiencing life with the Karamajong people.
Package Includes, Transportation, bottled drinking water on safari, accommodation per intenary, English speaking guide/driver, activities as outlined, meals per intenary.
Excludes, Visa / entry permit for Uganda if required at 50 USD, Flight costs, All drinks except ones served for breakfast, beverages, any activity not mentioned in the intenary, any personal travel insurance covers.
Where Half board meal plan has been indicated, clients will be taken to a restaurant on a stop over en-route our destination where they can buy their lunch depending on choice.
